Psychology or Counselling Graduate – SEMH School Support Role
Location: Chorley
Contract: Full-time, Temp to Perm
Are you a recent Psychology or Counselling graduate looking to make a difference in the lives of young people? Do you want to gain hands-on experience supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom have experienced adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and trauma?
We are working with a specialist SEMH school in Chorley who are seeking a dedicated graduate to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about mental health, behaviour support, and therapeutic education, and who is considering a long-term career in education, mental health, or youth support services.
The Role:

Supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis with SEMH and challenging behaviour needs

Building positive relationships to help pupils regulate emotions, re-engage with learning, and develop resilience

Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and external agencies to provide holistic support

Using strategies linked to behaviour management, de-escalation, and trauma-informed practice
Ideal Candidate:
-
Degree in Psychology, Counselling, or a related field
-
Knowledge or interest in trauma-informed practice, attachment theory, or child development
-
Resilient, patient, and confident in working with pupils who may display challenging behaviour

Genuine passion for improving outcomes for vulnerable young people

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
