Pupil Referral Unit SEN Assistant

Location: Huyton

Job title: PRU SEN Assistant

Salary: Dependent on experience

Start date: Immediate start

We are currently looking for Learning Support Assistants to work specifically with SEND pupils at referral units/additional provision schools. The roles will be throughout the Liverpool area, and are generally day to day roles, however some positions may be taken on for weeks or terms at a time. The pupils you will be working with would typically be SEN and would require 1:1, small group support or intervention support. The ideal candidate would be understanding and adaptable to the different requirements and restrictions of the needs of the pupil. This role may involve working with pupils with challenging and difficult bahaviours and your role would be to empathetically and thereputically support the pupil and contiuously encourage their education to achieve their learning outcomes. 

Job Description 

  • Creating a safe and calm environment for pupils
  • Implement planned learning activities/teaching programmes as agreed with the teacher.
  • Adjust learning activities based on pupils’ responses as appropriate to achieve effective learning outcomes.
  • Participate in planning and evaluation of learning activities with the teacher, providing feedback to the teacher on pupil progress and behaviour.
  • Provide information to the teacher for monitoring, assessing, and recording pupil progress/activities.
  • Liaise with other staff and parents to provide information about pupils as appropriate.
  • Understand and support pupils with special needs, including support for pupils with medical needs.
  • Support pupils with Individual Pupil Profiles and Educational Health Care plans.
  • To support specific pupils with barriers to learning in and out of the classroom.
  • Assist with pupil first aid, welfare duties, looking after sick pupils, intimate care and liaising with parents/staff etc.
  • Undertake break and lunchtime duties.
  • Take part in relevant whole school and individual professional development and training whilst supporting colleagues in their development.

Person Specification 

  • A commitment to ensuring that young people achieve their full educational potential
  • Knowledge of a variety of intervention strategies
  • An ability to adapt to different teaching strategies dependent on the requirments of the students SEND
  • Ability to work with and support the classroom teacher.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong literacy skills
  • Ability to supervise pupils effectively both in and out of school and manage their behavioral needs
  • Well organised, forward thinking and able to problem solve
  • Commited to the well being of children and young people
  • Ability to form effective professional relationships and boundaries with pupils to allow a safe and approachable person for them to trust
  • UK Drivers license(Desired but not required)
  • Experience of supporting complex needs of pupils with SEND(Desired but not required)
