Primary Teaching Assistant
Job description
We are seeking a committed, resilient and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our Primary Pupil Referral Unit, supporting children who have experienced significant barriers to education and who require a specialist, nurturing environment to help them re-engage with learning.
Our pupils may present with complex social, emotional and behavioural needs. Some have experienced trauma, adverse childhood experiences, disrupted education, or difficulties regulating their emotions. Behaviour can at times be challenging, and no two days are ever the same.
This role is not for everyone.
We are looking for someone who can remain calm when others are not, build positive relationships with children who may initially reject support, and see beyond behaviour to understand the unmet needs driving it.
The Person We Are Looking For
It is essential you have experience working with young people ages 4-11 as well as experience supporting individuals with behavioural challenges.
You will be:
- Exceptionally patient and emotionally resilient.

- Positive, optimistic and able to find success in small steps.
- Consistent and reliable, even on difficult days.
- Confident working with children who may display challenging behaviour.
- Skilled at building trust and meaningful relationships.

- Passionate about helping children overcome barriers and achieve their potential.
Most importantly, you will believe that every child deserves a fresh start, regardless of their past experiences or current challenges.
The Role
You will:
- Support pupils in the classroom and during structured interventions.
- Help children develop emotional regulation, social skills and positive behaviours.
- Build strong relationships that encourage engagement and attendance.
- Work alongside teachers and other professionals to deliver personalised support.
- Promote a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
- Celebrate progress, no matter how small.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
