Contract: Full-time, Temp to Perm

About the School:
We are proud to be working with a warm, inclusive, and highly nurturing special school in Liverpool that supports exceptional children aged 2–11 with a range of complex needs. Pupils have profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), severe learning difficulties (SLD), and complex autism, with all children supported through an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The school is committed to creating a safe, stimulating environment where every pupil’s unique strengths and needs shape their personalised learning journey.

The Role:
The school is seeking an experienced and passionate SEN Teacher to join their dedicated team. You will be responsible for delivering tailored learning experiences that meet the highly individualised needs of pupils, while working closely with teaching assistants, therapists, and families to ensure meaningful progress across all developmental areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, deliver, and assess engaging and differentiated lessons for pupils with PMLD, SLD, and autism.
  • Use sensory, play-based, and communication-focused teaching approaches to promote engagement, independence, and emotional development.
  • Collaborate effectively with teaching assistants, therapists, and external professionals to provide holistic, consistent support.
  • Create a nurturing, structured classroom environment that supports emotional regulation, positive behaviour, and wellbeing.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, contribute to EHCP reviews, and set personalised learning targets.
  • Use a range of alternative communication methods such as Makaton and PECS to enhance pupils’ expressive and receptive communication.
  • Lead and support the classroom team, modelling high-quality SEND practice and encouraging professional development.

Essential Skills & Qualities:
We are looking for someone who has:

  • Significant experience teaching children with PMLD, SLD, and/or complex autism.
  • Strong knowledge of SEND pedagogy, including sensory integration and personalised learning approaches.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work positively with families and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Creativity, patience, and a deep commitment to improving outcomes for children with complex needs.
  • Resilience, emotional maturity, and the ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations.
  • Strong organisational and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a class team.
  • A solid understanding of safeguarding and child protection processes.

Desirable:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Training in autism strategies, sensory approaches, communication systems, or behaviour support.
  • Experience using Makaton, PECS, or other AAC systems.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
