Phonics Intervention Teaching Assistant

Location: Lancaster, Morecambe & Heysham
Start Date: February 2026
Contract: Full‑time
Pay: £13.75–£14.50 per hour

Primary schools across the area are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Phonics Intervention Teaching Assistant to support early reading development in EYFS and KS1. This role is ideal for someone confident delivering structured phonics sessions and passionate about helping young children build strong foundational literacy skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver targeted phonics interventions to small groups and individual pupils
  • Support early reading and writing development using engaging, structured approaches
  • Adapt activities to meet the needs of pupils with varying abilities, including EAL learners
  • Track progress and communicate outcomes to class teachers
  • Work collaboratively with EYFS and KS1 staff to raise attainment
  • Contribute to creating an inclusive, language‑rich learning environment

Person Specification

  • Strong phonics knowledge and experience delivering phonics‑based support
  • Experience working within EYFS or KS1
  • Clear communication skills and a patient, encouraging manner
  • Proactive, organised and confident adapting learning activities
  • Experience supporting EAL or additional learning needs is beneficial

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
