Job description

Location: Farnborough
Setting: 4–16 SEMH & SEN Specialist Provision
Contract: Permanent

A specialist education setting in Farnborough is seeking to appoint a passionate and resilient PE Teacher or Sports Coach to join its dedicated team on a permanent basis. The school provides support for pupils aged 4–16 across both SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) and SEN provisions, offering a highly personalised approach to education for young people with a range of additional needs.

The provision operates across two nearby buildings within walking distance of each other. The successful candidate may be required to work across both settings, supporting pupils with differing needs while maintaining a consistent and supportive approach to physical education and wellbeing.

This is a highly rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people who benefit from a specialist and nurturing learning environment. With small class sizes of around six pupils supported by Learning Support Assistants (LSAs), staff are able to build strong, meaningful relationships and provide targeted support that helps pupils develop confidence, emotional regulation, and engagement with learning.

The successful candidate will deliver engaging and inclusive PE sessions that promote physical wellbeing, teamwork, resilience, and self-regulation across a wide age range. Physical activity plays an important role in supporting pupils’ development, providing positive outlets for energy, opportunities to experience success, and a way to build important life skills. You will be supported by an experienced pastoral and leadership team committed to collaborative working and staff development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive PE lessons adapted to meet a range of SEMH and SEN needs

  • Use sport and physical activity to support positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and personal development

  • Work across both the SEMH and SEN provisions when required

  • Build consistent, professional relationships with pupils to promote trust, engagement, and confidence

  • Contribute to pastoral support and behaviour strategies within the setting

  • Maintain a safe, structured and supportive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant sports coaching/PE experience

  • Unqualified candidates with strong PE or sports coaching experience are encouraged to apply

  • A strong understanding of behaviour management and restorative approaches

  • Experience working within SEMH, SEN, alternative provision, or specialist settings (desirable)

  • Patience, resilience, and a nurturing approach when supporting young people with additional needs

  • The ability to adapt activities and inspire pupils who may have struggled in mainstream education

Salary will be paid in line with the relevant pay scale, depending on qualifications and experience. Applications are welcomed from candidates seeking full-time or part-time opportunities, with flexibility available depending on availability.

A Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service is required, or applicants must be willing to obtain one prior to appointment.

If you are passionate about supporting young people with additional needs and believe in the positive impact of sport and physical activity within specialist education, we encourage you to apply.
