Secondary School Physical Education (PE) Teacher
Job Purpose
To deliver high-quality physical education that promotes physical fitness, healthy lifestyles, teamwork, and personal development, enabling students to achieve their full potential in accordance with the national curriculum.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
-
Plan and deliver engaging PE lessons across a range of activities (e.g. games, athletics, fitness, gymnastics, dance)

Teach in line with the national curriculum and departmental schemes of work
-
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs and abilities of all students
-
Promote enjoyment of physical activity and lifelong participation in sport
-
Encourage teamwork, leadership, resilience, and fair play
Assessment and Progress
-
Assess, record, and report on student progress accurately
-
Use assessment data to inform planning and support student development
-
Prepare students for internal and external examinations where applicable
Health, Safety, and Wellbeing
-
Maintain a safe learning environment during all physical activities
-
Ensure correct use, storage, and maintenance of equipment
-
Follow school health and safety policies and risk assessment procedures
Extracurricular Activities
-
Contribute to the school’s extracurricular sports programme
-
Support and, where appropriate, lead school teams and sporting events
-
Assist with fixtures, competitions, and enrichment activities
Professional Responsibilities

Participate in departmental meetings and curriculum development
-
Engage in continuous professional development
-
Communicate effectively with parents, carers, and colleagues
-
Contribute to whole-school initiatives and events
Safeguarding
-
Promote the welfare and safeguarding of students
-
Adhere to school safeguarding and child protection policies
Person Specification
Essential
-
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
-
Degree in Physical Education, Sport, or a related subject
-
Strong subject knowledge and enthusiasm for physical education
-
Ability to motivate and engage secondary-age students
-
Effective classroom and behavior management skills
Desirable
-
Experience teaching PE at KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable)
-
Experience coaching school sports teams
-
First aid qualification or willingness to obtain one

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
