Teaching Personnel are looking for an enthusiastic, supportive and outdoors-focused Learning Support Assistant to join one of our partner settings in East Devon.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors and is passionate about helping young people develop their confidence, resilience and practical skills. The role will involve supporting students through a range of outdoor education, practical and experiential learning activities.
The Role
As an Outdoor Education Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff to support students both in the classroom and during outdoor activities.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Supporting students during outdoor learning and practical activities.
- Helping young people develop confidence, independence and resilience.
- Providing one-to-one and small-group support where required.
- Encouraging positive engagement with learning and activities.
- Supporting students with behavioural, social and emotional needs.
- Helping deliver activities such as outdoor learning, environmental projects, teamwork exercises and practical skills.
- Building positive and trusting relationships with students.
- Supporting students to overcome barriers to learning.
- Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging students to take responsibility.
- Working as part of a wider education team to ensure students receive appropriate support.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will ideally:
- Have experience working with children or young people.
- Have a genuine interest in outdoor education, sport, practical activities or the environment.
- Be confident working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Have a patient, calm and supportive approach.
- Be able to build positive relationships with young people.
- Have strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Be reliable, adaptable and willing to get involved.
- Have an interest in supporting young people who may find traditional classroom environments challenging.
Previous experience in outdoor education is desirable but not essential. We are also keen to hear from candidates with backgrounds in youth work, sports coaching, outdoor pursuits, teaching assistance, care or similar environments.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
