Do you have strong numeracy skills, a patient approach, and a passion for helping young people succeed? Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting for a Numeracy Intervention Teaching Assistant to join one of our welcoming and forward-thinking partner secondary schools in Blackwood.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working closely with pupils and wants to play a key role in improving confidence, attainment, and engagement in mathematics.
You will work with small groups of pupils who require additional support with numeracy, helping them build essential maths skills in a supportive and encouraging environment. This role would suit aspiring teachers, graduates, experienced Teaching Assistants, sports coaches, youth workers, or anyone with a passion for education and supporting young people.
The Role
As a Numeracy Intervention Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Deliver targeted maths and numeracy intervention sessions to small groups of pupils
- Support students who may lack confidence or struggle to engage with mathematics
- Encourage participation, resilience, and independent learning
- Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to monitor pupil progress
- Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
- Adapt your approach to meet the individual needs of learners
- Build strong relationships with pupils to improve both confidence and academic performance
- Uphold safeguarding policies and promote pupil wellbeing at all times

- Confident supporting mathematics and numeracy learning
- Passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to education
- Resilient, adaptable, and proactive
- Calm, patient, and encouraging in challenging situations
- Able to communicate effectively with pupils and staff
- Experienced working with young people in schools, coaching, youth work, care, or support settings (desirable but not essential)
We welcome applications from candidates with professional or personal experience supporting children with additional learning needs (ALN/SEN). Full support and guidance will be provided by Teaching Personnel.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- The right to work in the UK
- An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one)
- Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC)
- Two professional references covering the last 24 months
