Maths Teacher
Job description
Maths Teacher or SEN Teacher – SEMH
A specialist secondary SEMH provision is seeking a dedicated and resilient teacher to join a highly supportive team working with pupils aged 11 to 16. The primary focus of the role is the teaching of Maths; however, there is flexibility for an experienced general SEN teacher who may not be a Maths specialist. Suitable applicants are encouraged to apply, as the role can be shaped according to skills and experience.
This position offers a rewarding opportunity for a qualified teacher who is committed to re-engaging pupils with education, rebuilding confidence and supporting positive long-term outcomes.
About the pupils
Pupils within this setting present with a range of social, emotional and mental health needs. Many have experienced trauma, adverse childhood experiences, anxiety, attachment difficulties, ADHD and autism, and have often faced disruption to their education. As a result, they benefit from small class sizes, consistent routines and a calm, relational approach.
The setting places a strong emphasis on emotional wellbeing, behaviour regulation and personal development alongside academic progress. With appropriate support, pupils are able to make meaningful progress both academically and socially.
About the role
The successful candidate will teach Maths across Key Stages 3 and 4 where appropriate, adapting lessons to meet individual needs and starting points. For teachers without a Maths specialism, there is scope to deliver a broader curriculum while supporting Maths learning with guidance from the wider team.
The role involves close collaboration with teaching assistants, pastoral staff and senior leaders who have a strong understanding of SEMH and value trauma-informed and restorative practice.
Key responsibilities include:
-
Planning and delivering engaging, accessible lessons that support progress and confidence
-
Using calm, consistent and trauma-informed approaches to behaviour support
-
Developing positive, trusting relationships that promote re-engagement with learning
-
Working collaboratively with support staff, therapists and senior leaders to implement personalised support plans
-
Monitoring pupil progress and contributing to assessments, reviews and next-step planning
Why join this setting?
-
Small class sizes and high levels of adult support
-
A highly supportive and experienced staff team with strong leadership
-
Opportunities for flexible and creative teaching approaches
-
Reduced pressures compared to a mainstream timetable
-
High levels of professional satisfaction from supporting pupils to re-engage and succeed
Working pattern and pay
-
Full-time, Monday to Friday
-
Part-time applications may be considered
-
Salary paid to scale in accordance with teacher pay and conditions
