Are you passionate about helping vulnerable young people overcome barriers to learning?

I am recruiting on behalf of a mainstream secondary school in the BS11 area of Bristol for a dedicated and compassionate Maths & English Tutor to support students on a 1:1 basis.

This role will focus primarily on working with Children in Care / Looked After Children who have experienced disruptions to their education, resulting in gaps in learning and reduced confidence within the classroom.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in helping students re-engage with learning, build self-belief and make meaningful academic progress.

✅ About the Role

As a Maths & English Tutor, you will:

• Deliver targeted 1:1 support in Maths and English
• Identify and address gaps in learning
• Adapt lessons and resources to meet individual needs
• Build positive, trusting relationships with students
• Support learners whose academic ability may differ from their chronological age
• Help students develop confidence, resilience and independence
• Track progress and work closely with school staff to ensure positive outcomes
• Create a supportive and engaging learning environment

✅ About the Students

The students you will support are primarily:

• Children in Care / Looked After Children 
• Learners who have experienced disrupted education
• Students who may have attended multiple schools
• Young people with significant gaps in Maths and English
• Students requiring additional encouragement and consistency

As a result, experience supporting learners across a range of ages and abilities is highly beneficial, as learning levels may be below expected age-related expectations.

Experience supporting any of the following would be advantageous:

• Children in Care (CIC)
• Looked After Children (LAC)
• SEND
• SEMH
• Literacy and Numeracy Interventions
• Alternative Provision
• Vulnerable or disadvantaged learners

✅ Requirements

• Strong literacy and numeracy skills
• Experience supporting children or young people in an educational setting
• Ability to deliver personalised learning support
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)

Drivers are highly desirable.

The role is based in the BS11 area, so applicants should be able to commute reliably to the school.
