Level 3 Teaching Assistant – Specialist SEND (PMLD & SLD)

 

Location: Northampton, NN3

Salary: 92.63-100 per day

Contract: Full-time

Start Date: September 2026

We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and enthusiastic Level 3 Teaching Assistant to join our specialist team supporting pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) and Severe Learning Disabilities (SLD).

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people with complex learning, physical, medical, and communication needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with PMLD and SLD in accessing a personalised curriculum.
  • Work closely with teachers and therapists to deliver high-quality learning experiences.
  • Provide personal care with dignity and respect, promoting pupils' independence wherever possible.
  • Support pupils with communication, sensory regulation, and physical needs.
  • Assist with moving and handling procedures in line with school policies.
  • Contribute to recording pupil progress and implementing individual support plans.
  • Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.

Essential Requirements

  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
  • Experience supporting pupils with PMLD and/or SLD in a school or specialist setting.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A caring, patient, and flexible approach.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

Training or experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

  • PEG feeding.
  • Hoisting and moving & handling.
  • Administration of medication (where appropriate).
  • Epilepsy awareness.
  • Manual handling.
  • Makaton, PECS, or alternative communication approaches.
  • Positive behaviour support.
  • Supporting pupils with complex medical needs.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
