Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting Learning Support Assistants to join specialist SEN nurseries in the Southampton area from September. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a supportive environment, helping young children with complex additional needs develop, learn and thrive during the early stages of their education.

The Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting young children with complex special educational needs throughout the nursery day. Working closely with nursery practitioners and specialist staff, you will help children develop communication, independence, social skills and confidence through play-based learning and structured activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support young children with complex special educational needs on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.

  • Encourage communication, independence, play and social interaction.

  • Assist with sensory activities, emotional regulation and personal development.

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with children, staff and families.

  • Work collaboratively with nursery practitioners, teachers, therapists and other professionals to achieve the best outcomes for every child.

  • Help create a safe, nurturing and stimulating learning environment where every child can flourish.

About You

We are looking for individuals who are:

  • Caring, patient and resilient.

  • Passionate about supporting young children with additional needs.

  • Experienced in working with children or vulnerable adults (preferred but not essential).

  • Excellent communicators with a positive, proactive attitude.

  • Committed to creating an inclusive and nurturing environment where every child feels supported.
