Job description

Full-Time Male SEMH Teaching Assistant

Location: Camberley and surrounding area
Contract: Full-Time | Term Time Only
Start Date: ASAP (or September 2026)

We are seeking a dedicated, resilient, and enthusiastic Male SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream secondary school in the Camberley area.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

The Role

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with social, emotional and mental health needs.

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students to promote engagement and emotional regulation.

  • Support students both in and out of the classroom to help them access the curriculum.

  • Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, SENCOs and external professionals.

  • Help implement behaviour support strategies and individual support plans.

  • Encourage positive behaviour, resilience and independence.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with young people with SEMH, behavioural needs or additional learning needs (school, youth work, coaching, mentoring or care experience welcomed).

  • Is calm, patient and confident in managing challenging behaviour positively.

  • Has excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Can act as a positive male role model where appropriate.

  • Is reliable, adaptable and committed to safeguarding children.

  • Holds (or is willing to obtain) an enhanced DBS check.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
