Learning Support Assistant
Job description
Are you passionate about supporting young people with additional needs and helping them develop confidence, independence and life skills? We are currently seeking caring, motivated and resilient Learning Support Assistants to join a specialist college provision in Bournemouth supporting students aged 16–25.
The college supports young people with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), learning disabilities, communication difficulties, social and emotional needs and associated additional needs. Students are supported through both educational and vocational pathways, with a strong focus on independence, wellbeing and preparation for adulthood.
The role will involve:
- Providing 1:1 and small group support to students throughout the college day
- Assisting students with learning activities, communication and social interaction
- Encouraging independence, confidence and emotional wellbeing
- Supporting students with life skills, employability activities and community-based learning
- Helping students manage anxiety, emotional regulation and daily routines
- Working closely with tutors, therapists and wider support teams to meet individual needs
- Promoting a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment
We are looking for individuals who:
- Have experience supporting young people across secondary and post 16 age rages, ideally in a classroom environment but we will also consider those with a background in youth work.
- Are patient, empathetic and adaptable
- Have a genuine passion for supporting young people with SEND
- Can build positive and professional relationships with students
- Are confident supporting a range of needs and communication styles
- Remain calm and supportive during challenging situations
- Work well as part of a multidisciplinary team

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
