KS1 Teaching Assistant – 1:1 Support (Fixed Term, Potential to Extend)
Location: Gateshead
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time (until December 2026 initially)

We are currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Teaching Assistant to work within a Key Stage 1 setting in a welcoming primary school in Gateshead.

This is a full-time role starting in September, initially until December 2026, with the potential to continue beyond this point depending on the progress and positive response of the pupil.

About the Role

  • Full-time Teaching Assistant position in KS1
  • Providing 1:1 specialist support for a pupil with additional needs
  • Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement tailored support strategies
  • Supporting the pupil’s academic, social, and emotional development
  • Helping to create a positive and inclusive learning environment

The Pupil

  • The role involves supporting a pupil who requires consistent, individualised support
  • A patient, nurturing, and adaptable approach is essential
  • The continuation of the role will be based on the pupil’s engagement and progress

We Are Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has proven experience working as a Teaching Assistant, ideally within KS1
  • Has experience supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis, particularly those with additional needs
  • Is calm, patient, and resilient
  • Can build strong, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Is proactive and able to adapt support strategies as needed
  • Works effectively as part of a team

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
