HLTA
Job description
We’re currently looking for an experienced HLTA to support within a specialist SEN school in the DE3 area on a supply basis.
This is a secondary setting, but many pupils are working at a primary level, so confidence across both is really useful. The school supports students with a range of additional needs including autism, communication needs, SEMH, and complex learning difficulties, so every day can look a little different.
As a supply HLTA, you’d be covering classes when needed, supporting small group learning, stepping in for planned staff absences, and helping keep routines consistent for the students. Some days will be calm and structured, others can be more challenging, particularly around behaviour and emotional regulation, so being patient, adaptable, and confident in your approach is important.
A lot of people enjoy supply in these settings because it gives you the chance to focus on the actual support and teaching, without all the extra pressure that can come with permanent roles. It also works well if you want flexibility, whether that’s full-time, part-time, or while figuring out your next longer-term move.
We’re looking for someone with:
- HLTA status or strong classroom leadership experience
- Previous SEN experience
- Confidence managing behaviour positively and calmly
- A genuine understanding of working with children who need consistency and patience
If you’re looking for something flexible but still meaningful, this could be a really good fit.
