Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

Position: HLTA
Location: Stockport
Contract: Flexible Supply Work with Potential Long‑Term Placements
Daily Rate: £100 – £115

Are you a dedicated HLTA who enjoys variety, independence, and the chance to make a difference in multiple school settings? If you’re looking for supply work that fits around your lifestyle while still offering meaningful classroom experience, this HLTA role could be exactly what you’re after.

We’re working with several warm, welcoming Stockport primary schools that regularly require confident Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTA) to step in and provide high‑quality support. Whether you're an experienced TA ready to progress or an established HLTA seeking more flexibility, supply work offers the perfect balance of challenge and freedom.

As a supply HLTA, you’ll visit a range of schools, adapting to different environments, working with pupils across KS1 and KS2, and occasionally delivering pre‑planned lessons when the teacher is unavailable. No two days are the same—ideal for someone who thrives on variety and wants to build experience quickly.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Delivering prepared lessons confidently when required.
  • Supporting pupils through 1:1 interventions and small group work.
  • Leading the class and maintaining a positive learning environment.
  • Providing tailored support for children with SEN or SEMH needs.
  • Using creativity and initiative to engage all learners.
  • Feeding back to class teachers to support pupil progress.
  • Adapting activities to suit a range of abilities.
  • Working independently as a trusted HLTA member of staff.
  • Offering emotional and social support where needed.
  • Taking part in CPD and keeping safeguarding knowledge up to date.

What We’re Looking For:

  • HLTA status or an equivalent recognised qualification.
  • English and Maths qualifications at GCSE grade C/4 or above.
  • Experience within a primary school environment.
  • Strong understanding of the KS1 and KS2 curriculum.
  • A warm, positive approach and excellent communication skills.
  • An Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).

Why Choose Teaching Personnel?

  • Access to a wide range of supply and long‑term HLTA positions.
  • Competitive weekly pay and consistent opportunities.
  • Ongoing CPD to help you grow as an HLTA.
  • Support from a friendly and experienced local team.
  • Recognition via our Excellence in Education awards.

If you’re an HLTA who loves flexibility, enjoys stepping into new challenges, and wants to make a genuine impact across Stockport schools, we’d really like to hear from you.
