Higher Level Learning Support Assistant
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Salary: £110 - £130 per day
Contract Type: Full Time
Start Date: November 2026
About the Role
Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Higher Level Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming secondary schools in Newcastle upon Tyne. This rewarding role involves supporting pupils with a range of additional learning needs, helping them to achieve their full potential both academically and personally.
Working closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals, you will deliver targeted support and interventions, promote positive behaviour, and contribute to an inclusive learning environment where all pupils can thrive.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with a range of SEND, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and learning difficulties.
• Deliver targeted interventions in literacy, numeracy, communication, and social skills.
• Adapt and support classroom activities to ensure all pupils can access and engage with learning.
• Monitor, assess and record pupil progress, behaviour, and wellbeing, providing regular feedback to staff and parents/carers where appropriate.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other support services to implement EHCP targets and personalised learning plans.
• Support pupils during transitions, both within school and between educational settings.
• Contribute to the development of inclusive resources and strategies that promote positive outcomes for learners.
What We're Looking For
• Previous experience working with children or young people with additional learning needs, ideally within an educational setting.
• A relevant Level 3 qualification or above, such as Supporting Teaching and Learning, Child Development, or an equivalent qualification.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and behaviour management skills.
• A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting children and young people.
• A sound understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must have:
• An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service, or be willing to apply for one.
• A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) or higher.
• Previous experience working with children and/or young people, preferably within an educational setting.
• Alternatively, candidates with a minimum Level 2 qualification, including Grade 4 (C) or above in English and Mathematics, and relevant experience will also be considered.
