Teaching Personnel is recruiting experienced High Level Teaching Assistants to support a range of specialist SEND provisions in and around Shepton Mallet on a flexible supply basis.
This opportunity is designed for skilled education professionals who enjoy the variety of supply work whilst maintaining a meaningful role in supporting children and young people with additional needs. Whether you're looking to complement existing commitments or seeking flexible employment within specialist education, this position offers the chance to make a genuine impact.
We partner with a number of SEND and SEMH settings across the area, meaning successful candidates can access a variety of placements supporting learners with autism, learning difficulties, communication needs, social and emotional challenges, sensory needs and complex educational profiles.

As these are ad-hoc supply assignments, we are specifically looking for experienced individuals who can hit the ground running, adapt quickly to new environments and confidently support both pupils and staff from the moment they arrive.
The Opportunity
As a High Level Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting learning, promoting positive outcomes and helping maintain continuity across specialist educational provisions.
- Leading learning activities and intervention sessions
- Delivering pre-planned lessons when required
- Supporting pupils with additional needs to access learning
- Working closely with teaching staff and senior leaders
- Encouraging independence and resilience
- Supporting EHCP targets and personalised learning goals
- Assisting with behaviour support strategies
- Providing feedback on pupil progress and engagement
- Supporting small groups and individual learners
- Contributing to positive, inclusive learning environments

What We're Looking For
To be successful, applicants should demonstrate:
- Previous experience working as a HLTA, Teaching Assistant or within a specialist education setting
- A minimum of 6 months' relevant experience supporting children or young people
- Confidence leading learning activities independently
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- The ability to adapt to different educational environments
- A proactive and professional approach
- Commitment to supporting learners with additional needs
Experience within SEND, SEMH, alternative provisions, specialist schools or care environments would be highly advantageous.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
