Graduate Teacher
Job description
Teaching Personnel are recruiting graduates for a Graduate Teaching Internship starting this September in secondary schools across Oldham.
This is a paid, full‑time, term‑time role for graduates who are considering a career in secondary teaching but would like to gain meaningful classroom experience before committing to a PGCE or school‑based teacher training route. The internship runs for the academic year and provides a realistic, supported introduction to working in schools.
You will be placed in one Oldham secondary school for the duration of the placement, working closely with experienced teaching staff. The role is designed to help you build classroom confidence, develop behaviour management skills and gain a clear understanding of the day‑to‑day demands of teaching. Many graduates who complete this internship progress into teacher training the following year.
The role will involve:
- Supporting lessons across KS3 and KS4
- Supervising classes during short‑term teacher absence using pre‑set work
- Working with pupils on a one‑to‑one and small‑group basis
- Developing confidence managing classrooms and pupil behaviour
- Gaining insight into how secondary schools in Oldham operate day to day
There is no expectation for full lesson planning or marking.
This opportunity is suited to graduates who:
- Are completing their degree or have graduated within the last few years
- Are seriously considering secondary teaching as a long‑term career
- Are professional, reliable and confident working with young people
- Want school‑based experience before applying for teacher training
Experience working with young people is beneficial but not essential.
What is offered:
- A paid, full‑time placement for the academic year
- A consistent placement in one Oldham secondary school
- Ongoing support from Teaching Personnel and the host school
- Strong preparation for PGCE, SCITT or salaried teacher training routes
Placements start in September and are based in Oldham and surrounding Greater Manchester areas.
If you are a graduate who wants to enter teaching with the right experience and a clear understanding of the role, this Graduate Teaching Internship provides a strong foundation.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
