About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and imaginative Geography Teacher who believes that the world is the most powerful classroom of all. This role is ideal for an educator who can bring landscapes, cultures, climates, and global challenges to life—helping students understand not just where places are, but why they matter.

You will inspire curiosity about the planet, encourage critical thinking about environmental and human issues, and empower students to see themselves as informed global citizens.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

  • Plan and deliver engaging, well-structured Geography lessons across Key Stages [3/4/5 as applicable], aligned with national curriculum and examination specifications.

  • Use a variety of teaching strategies—including inquiry-based learning, fieldwork, GIS, case studies, and current global events—to inspire and challenge learners.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs, abilities, and learning styles of all students.

  • Integrate literacy, numeracy, and digital skills seamlessly into Geography teaching.

Assessment & Progress

  • Assess, track, and monitor student progress using formative and summative assessment strategies.

  • Provide timely, constructive feedback that supports academic growth and exam success.

  • Use assessment data to inform planning and intervention strategies.

Curriculum Development

  • Contribute to the development and review of a dynamic, relevant Geography curriculum.

  • Support enrichment activities such as field trips, geography clubs, sustainability projects, and eco-initiatives.

  • Keep subject knowledge up to date, particularly in areas such as climate change, sustainability, urbanisation, and geopolitics.

Pastoral & Professional Responsibilities

  • Act as a form tutor or pastoral mentor, supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional development.

  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour, effort, and achievement.

  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues within the Humanities department and across the school.

  • Engage in ongoing professional development and contribute to the wider life of the school community.

Person Specification

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.

  • A degree in Geography or a closely related subject.

  • Strong subject knowledge and enthusiasm for Geography education.

  • Ability to create engaging, inclusive, and challenging learning experiences.

  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills.

Desirable

  • Experience teaching Geography at GCSE and/or A-Level.

  • Fieldwork leadership experience.

  • Confidence using educational technology and GIS tools.
