Functional Skills Tutor – NE8 (Newcastle)

Location: NE8, Newcastle
Hours: Monday–Friday | Flexible
Pay: Competitive hourly rate

We’re looking for a motivated and supportive Functional Skills Tutor to deliver 1:1, face-to-face tuition in Maths and English to learners in the NE8 area. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys helping students develop essential, real-life skills and gain confidence in their abilities.


Your Role

You’ll be working closely with learners to break down barriers to education and support their progress in Functional Skills.

  • Deliver personalised 1:1 tuition in Maths and/or English
  • Adapt lessons to suit individual learning needs and abilities
  • Focus on practical, real-world applications of learning
  • Build confidence, independence, and engagement
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback

What You Bring

  • Experience teaching or tutoring Maths and/or English
  • Understanding of Functional Skills curriculum (Entry Level–Level 2)
  • Experience working with young people or vulnerable learners
  • A patient, flexible, and encouraging approach
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Right to work in the UK

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
