Food Technology Teacher

Location: Esteem South Academy
Hours: 32.5 hours per week (Full-Time)
Contract: Full Year
Salary: MPS / UPS + SEN Allowance (SEN1)
Reporting to: Head of School


About the Role

Esteem South Academy is seeking a passionate and resilient Food Technology Teacher to join our dedicated team. This is an exciting opportunity to deliver engaging and meaningful learning experiences to pupils with a range of additional needs within a supportive and inclusive environment.

You will play a vital role in inspiring pupils, nurturing independence, and equipping them with practical life skills through a creative and adaptive Food Technology curriculum. This role is ideal for a teacher who thrives in a dynamic setting and is committed to making a real difference in young people’s lives.


Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

  • Plan and deliver high-quality Food Technology lessons tailored to individual pupil needs
  • Set clear learning objectives and structure lessons to maintain pace, engagement, and challenge
  • Use adaptive teaching strategies to ensure all pupils can access the curriculum
  • Promote independence, resilience, and confidence through practical learning
  • Create a safe, stimulating, and well-organised learning environment

Assessment & Progress

  • Assess, record, and monitor pupil progress in line with academy policies
  • Use assessment data to inform teaching and support pupil development
  • Set appropriate targets and provide meaningful feedback
  • Produce high-quality reports for parents/carers, including Individual Learning Plans

Behaviour & Pastoral Support

  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour in line with academy policies
  • Support pupils’ social, emotional, and personal development
  • Contribute to tutor time, pastoral care, and wider academy life
  • Foster positive relationships built on trust, consistency, and respect

Curriculum & Whole School Contribution

  • Contribute to curriculum development and enrichment opportunities
  • Support whole-school initiatives including assemblies, events, and alternative provision (e.g. online or off-site learning)
  • Take responsibility for aspects of curriculum planning and improvement
  • Promote careers education and post-16 pathways

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a teacher who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Has experience teaching Food Technology (or a related subject)
  • Has a strong understanding of SEND and inclusive teaching practices
  • Can deliver engaging, practical, and differentiated lessons
  • Demonstrates excellent classroom management and behaviour strategies
  • Is reflective, proactive, and committed to continuous professional development
  • Can build strong relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues

Experience in alternative provision or working with pupils with complex needs is desirable but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
