Mainstream Secondary Schools

Looking for flexible work in education that fits around your schedule?

I am recruiting Flexible Cover Supervisors to support mainstream secondary schools across Central and South Bristol.

This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with young people and want the flexibility to choose when they work. Whether you're an aspiring teacher, a graduate, an experienced cover supervisor, or someone with experience leading groups of young people, this could be an excellent opportunity to gain valuable classroom experience.

You don't need to be a qualified teacher, but you do need to be confident managing a classroom and building positive relationships with students.

✅ About the Role

As a Flexible Cover Supervisor, you will:

  • Deliver pre-planned lessons in the absence of the class teacher
  • Manage classroom behaviour and maintain a positive learning environment
  • Ensure students remain engaged and focused on their learning
  • Support students with questions and encourage participation
  • Follow school behaviour and safeguarding procedures
  • Work across a variety of subjects and year groups
  • Provide feedback to teaching staff at the end of lessons
  • Adapt confidently to different schools and classroom environments

No planning or marking is typically required for day-to-day cover.

✅ Who This Role Suits

This opportunity would be ideal for:

  • Graduates considering teacher training
  • Aspiring Secondary Teachers
  • Experienced Cover Supervisors
  • Teaching Assistants looking to step up
  • Sports Coaches
  • Youth Workers
  • Tutors
  • Learning Mentors
  • Education Graduates
  • Individuals with experience managing groups of young people

If you're confident leading a room and can establish positive expectations quickly, we'd love to hear from you.

✅ What We're Looking For

We're seeking candidates who are:

✔ Confident speaking in front of groups

✔ Adaptable and quick to build rapport

✔ Professional and reliable

✔ Comfortable managing classroom behaviour

✔ Organised and able to follow instructions

✔ Positive and approachable

✔ Able to think on their feet

✔ Passionate about supporting young people

✅ Why Choose Flexible Supply?

One of the biggest benefits of this role is flexibility.

You can:

  • Choose the days you're available
  • Work around study, coaching, family or other commitments
  • Gain experience across different secondary schools
  • Build classroom confidence and behaviour management skills
  • Explore education before committing to teacher training
  • Take on ad-hoc, short-term or longer-term placements

Whether you're available one day a week or five, there are opportunities to suit your availability.

✅ Essential Requirements

  • Experience working with young people
  • Confidence leading groups and managing behaviour
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliability and professionalism
  • Commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)

School-based experience is desirable but not essential if you have strong transferable experience.

✅ Why Apply?

  • Flexible work around your availability
  • Gain valuable secondary school experience
  • Develop classroom management and leadership skills
  • Build experience before teacher training
  • Opportunities across Central and South Bristol
  • Long-term and permanent opportunities available
  • Ongoing support and training
