Level 3 EYFS Teaching Assistant | Permanent TA Role

Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday

A primary school in Wallasey is looking for a qualified EYFS Teaching Assistant to join its Reception team permanently from January 2027.

The school needs someone who understands that a successful Reception classroom is about much more than helping children complete activities. You will support communication, confidence, independence, play, early reading and children’s personal, social and emotional development. You will work alongside the Reception teacher and wider EYFS team to create an environment where children feel secure, curious and ready to learn.

Your role will include:

• Supporting children through continuous provision and adult-led activities
• Encouraging purposeful learning through play
• Supporting communication, language and vocabulary development
• Helping children develop early reading, phonics and number skills
• Working with individual children and small groups
• Modelling positive social interaction and communication
• Supporting children during routines and transitions
• Helping children become increasingly independent
• Observing children and sharing relevant information with the teacher
• Contributing to the preparation of activities and learning areas
• Supporting children with SEND or speech and language needs
• Providing personal care, including toileting support, where required
• Maintaining a safe, organised and engaging environment
• Building professional relationships with parents and carers

Qualifications

Applicants should ideally hold a Level 3 Early Years Educator, Level 3 Childcare qualification or another DfE-recognised full and relevant early years qualification.

Qualifications should be checked against the Department for Education’s current early years qualifications list, as the course title and start date determine whether a qualification is recognised as full and relevant.

The school may also consider applicants who hold:

• A relevant Level 2 Early Years or Childcare qualification with substantial Reception or nursery experience
• A Teaching Assistant qualification supported by strong EYFS experience
• An overseas early years qualification that has been formally recognised for work in England

The Department for Education sets the qualification requirements for staff who count within EYFS staffing ratios, including qualifications at Levels 2 and 3.

The school is looking for someone who:

• Has recent experience in Reception, nursery, preschool or another EYFS setting
• Understands the EYFS approach to learning and development
• Knows how to support children through play rather than completing tasks for them
• Can contribute to observations and the assessment cycle
• Is confident supporting early communication, phonics and number development
• Understands the importance of safeguarding and professional boundaries
• Is willing to provide personal care where necessary
• Can support children with different developmental and communication needs
• Is calm, nurturing and consistent
• Works collaboratively and communicates clearly
• Wants to commit to a permanent school role

Experience as a Key Person, supporting SEND or working with speech, language and communication needs would be particularly valuable.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
