EYFS Teaching Assistant
Job description
We are seeking a caring, enthusiastic and dedicated EYFS Teaching Assistant to join our Early Years team. You will support children in a safe, nurturing and stimulating learning environment, helping them to develop socially, emotionally and academically.
Location: Nelson
Hours: Full-time
Salary: £14.25 - £15 per hour
Start Date: Tuesday 1st September 2026
Key Responsibilities
- Support the class teacher in delivering engaging EYFS learning activities
- Work with small groups and individual children to support learning and development
- Promote positive behaviour and support children’s emotional wellbeing
- Help prepare and maintain a safe, stimulating and inclusive learning environment
- Observe, record and contribute to assessments of children’s progress
- Support children with personal care where required
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and communicate effectively with parents/carers
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Have experience working in an EYFS setting (school or nursery)
- Hold a relevant qualification (Level 2 or 3 in Early Years preferred)
- Have a good understanding of the EYFS framework
- Be patient, caring and passionate about early childhood development
- Be able to work effectively as part of a team
- Have strong communication and interpersonal skills

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
