Job description

English Teacher – Secondary

Location: Swansea and surrounding areas

Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a number of secondary schools across the Swansea area who are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated English Teachers to provide classroom support.

This is a rewarding opportunity to work with pupils in Key Stages 3 and 4 (ages 11–16), supporting their academic development and preparing them for GCSE English. You will play a key role at a formative stage in students’ education, helping them develop critical thinking, literacy skills, and confidence.


The Role:

As a Secondary English Teacher, your responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching English in line with the National Curriculum

  • Planning and delivering engaging, structured lessons

  • Setting, marking, and assessing classwork and homework

  • Monitoring pupil progress and completing reports

  • Maintaining accurate attendance records

  • Managing classroom behaviour and promoting a positive learning environment

  • Working collaboratively with colleagues and Teaching Assistants

  • Ensuring safeguarding procedures are followed at all times

  • Communicating effectively with parents, carers, and external agencies when required

  • Providing feedback on pupil progress, behaviour, and any safeguarding concerns to relevant bodies


The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or be working towards it

  • Have experience teaching English at secondary level

  • Demonstrate excellent subject knowledge of English

  • Possess strong communication and classroom management skills

  • Be calm, adaptable, and resilient in challenging situations

  • Work well as part of a team and build positive professional relationships

  • Show a clear commitment to safeguarding and child welfare

  • Hold a full UK driving licence with access to their own vehicle

  • Have fluent spoken and written English

  • Be willing to undergo an enhanced DBS & EWC checks

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
