Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive mainstream secondary school in Darwen to recruit an enthusiastic EAL (English as an Additional Language) Teaching Assistant for a September 2026 start.
The Role
As an EAL Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students whose first language is not English, helping them to access the curriculum and fully engage in school life. You will work closely with classroom teachers, the SEN/EAL team, and pastoral staff to provide both in-class and targeted support.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting EAL pupils across a range of subjects, both in small groups and on a one-to-one basis
- Assisting students with language acquisition, vocabulary development, reading, and writing
- Helping pupils to understand lesson content and follow classroom instructions
- Encouraging confidence, independence, and inclusion within the classroom environment
- Working collaboratively with teaching staff to adapt resources where required
- Monitoring progress and feeding back to teachers and support staff
About You
- Experience working with EAL learners or students with additional language needs (desirable)
- A strong command of English and excellent communication skills
- A patient, supportive, and culturally sensitive approach
- Background in education, youth work, or linguistics is advantageous
- Secondary school experience is beneficial but not essential
- Right to work in the UK and willingness to undertake safeguarding checks

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
