Design & Technology Technician – Secondary School

Contract: Part-time, Long-term with potential for permanent position
Salary: Dependent on experience
Teaching Personnel are working with a supportive secondary school in Dorchester who are looking to appoint a practical and dependable Design & Technology Technician from September.
This part-time, long-term opportunity would suit someone with a practical background who enjoys working with tools, machinery and materials and is keen to support both staff and students within a busy D&T department. Previous experience within a school is beneficial but not essential, with candidates from engineering, manufacturing, construction or other workshop-based backgrounds encouraged to apply.
The Role
As a Design & Technology Technician, you will help ensure the department is well organised, fully equipped and ready to deliver practical lessons. Duties will include:

Preparing tools, materials and equipment ahead of practical lessons.

Supporting teachers and students during workshop-based activities.
-
Ensuring machinery and equipment is maintained and safe to use.

Carrying out basic maintenance and repairs where appropriate.

Monitoring stock levels and assisting with ordering materials.

Maintaining clean, tidy and organised workshop areas.
-
Ensuring appropriate health and safety procedures are followed.

Providing general technical support to the Design & Technology department.
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:

Practical experience using tools, machinery or workshop equipment.

An understanding of health and safety within a practical environment.

Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
-
The ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
-
A reliable, proactive and positive approach to their work.
-
Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with staff and students.
Experience working within a school or educational environment would be advantageous, although relevant practical experience from another industry will also be considered.
