Deputy SENCO

The Role

As Deputy SENCO, you will support the SENCO in ensuring that students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) receive high-quality provision and achieve their full potential. You will work closely with teaching staff, parents, external agencies, and pastoral teams to implement effective support strategies and promote inclusion across the school.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the SENCO in managing the school's SEND provision.
• Assist with the identification, assessment, and monitoring of students with SEND.
• Coordinate interventions and targeted support programmes.
• Monitor student progress and maintain accurate SEND records.
• Liaise with parents, carers, and external professionals.
• Support Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) reviews and annual reviews.
• Provide guidance and training to teaching and support staff on SEND strategies.
• Promote an inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive.

Requirements

• Experience working with children or young people with SEND.
• Strong understanding of SEND legislation and the SEND Code of Practice.
• Experience supporting students with EHCPs and additional learning needs.
• Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with staff, families, and external agencies.
• A teaching qualification or relevant SEND qualification is desirable but not essential.
