Job description

Teaching Personnel are seeking a confident and adaptable Cover Supervisor to join a well-regarded secondary school in Portsmouth. This full-time position is a great opportunity for anyone looking to gain practical classroom experience or explore a career in teaching.

In this role, you will be responsible for delivering pre-prepared lessons to students aged 11–16 when their regular teacher is absent. Your primary focus will be to ensure students remain engaged with their learning while maintaining a positive and productive classroom environment. The role may also involve providing support to pupils with special educational needs (SEN) when required and giving clear feedback to teaching staff about student progress and behaviour.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with secondary-aged pupils, with SEN experience being advantageous. You should be confident in managing a classroom and able to adapt quickly to changing situations. Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students are essential, along with enthusiasm, resilience, and a genuine passion for supporting young people in their education.

This full-time role is available for an immediate start and offers competitive daily pay rates of £120–£145. You will work within a supportive and inclusive school environment with access to professional development opportunities, as well as ongoing guidance from Teaching Personnel’s experienced recruitment team.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
