Cover supervisor, Secondary School
Location: Newport, South Wales
Pay Rate: £110-£120 per day
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm
Start Date: September Start – End of Academic Year (Immediate start for the right applicant)
About the Role
We are seeking a confident and reliable Cover Supervisor to join our dynamic secondary school team. This role is ideal for individuals interested in gaining experience in education or those considering a future in teaching.
As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise whole classes during the short-term absence of teaching staff, ensuring students remain engaged in pre-set work and maintain a positive learning environment.
Having subject expertise is an advantage, as it enables you to cover topics you are genuinely passionate about. What matters most is confidence, adaptability, and the ability to create a positive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise classes across a range of subjects using pre-prepared lesson materials
- Ensure students stay on task and complete assigned work
- Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies
- Supporting pupils with their learning and maintaining a positive classroom environment
- Applying behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
- Providing feedback to teaching staff at the end of the day
✅ Requirements
The ideal candidate will also require the following or already hold & willing to apply for: (We can help you obtain the below as part of the registration process)
- Experience working with young people (education, youth work, coaching, etc.) or experience managing/leading groups
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
- EWC Registration (or willingness to obtain one)
- excellent organisational and behaviour management skills
- Level 2 Safeguarding Course as part of your onboarding with us
- A Minimum of 2 professional based references which cover a 24-month period of employment (or equivalent)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
