Job Description

Teaching Personnel are recruiting a Complex Needs Support Assistant to work within a specialist education setting in Llanelli, supporting pupils with severe, profound and multiple learning needs.

This role would suit candidates with a background in care, health and social care, support work or sports coaching, who are passionate about supporting children with additional learning needs.

About the Pupils

The pupils supported within this setting have a wide range of complex needs, including:

• Severe and profound learning difficulties
• Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
• Sensory processing and communication needs
• Physical disabilities and mobility needs
• Social, emotional and behavioural needs

Support is tailored to each pupil, with a strong focus on emotional wellbeing, independence, communication and life skills, alongside academic learning.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support in the classroom
• Support pupils with sensory‑based learning activities
• Assist with personal care and mobility, where required
• Support pupils in sensory rooms to aid regulation and engagement
• Assist during hydrotherapy sessions using the on‑site pool
• Support pupils accessing the local community for real‑life learning experiences
• Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation
• Work closely with teaching staff and therapists

Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Enhanced DBS (Child Workforce) on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
• EWC registration, or willingness to register
• Health and Social Care qualification (or similar) – desirable
• Previous experience in a care or support role (education or non‑education based)
• Sports, coaching or physical activity background – highly advantageous
• Willingness to support personal care
• A patient, calm and compassionate approach
