Complex Needs Support Assistant

Location: Llanelli
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday
Pay Rate: £13.75 per hour
Age Range: 3 – 19 years

About the Role

A large, specialist provision in the Llanelli area is seeking dedicated, resilient, and compassionate Complex Needs Support Assistants to join their team. This setting supports children and young people aged 3–19 with a wide range of additional learning needs, offering a nurturing, structured, and inclusive environment where every pupil is supported to reach their full potential.

This is a hands-on and rewarding role, ideal for individuals who are proactive, adaptable, and passionate about supporting pupils with complex needs. You will work closely with teaching staff to provide tailored support across the school day, helping pupils develop academically, socially, emotionally, and practically.

About the Pupils

You will support pupils with a range of needs, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC)

  • Moderate to severe learning difficulties

  • Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD)

  • Social communication difficulties

  • Social, emotional, and behavioural needs

  • Non-verbal communication and sensory processing needs

Many pupils require 1:1 support, specialist strategies, and consistency to help them feel safe, confident, and engaged in learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support, tailored to individual learning plans

  • Support pupils during lessons, sensory activities, and practical, hands-on learning

  • Assist with personal development, social skills, and emotional regulation

  • Support pupils in specialist spaces such as sensory rooms and hydrotherapy sessions

  • Encourage engagement, confidence, independence, and positive behaviour

  • Assist with community-based activities and off-site appointments where required

  • Help create a safe, calm, and inclusive environment for pupils and staff

  • Work flexibly and support the wider school team when needed

  • Proactive team players who use initiative and follow guidance

  • Passionate about inclusion, equality, and supporting pupils of all abilities

Experience & Background (Advantageous but Not Essential)

  • SEN, ALN, or complex needs experience (personal or professional)

  • Health & Social Care or youth work background

  • Experience with ASD, non-verbal communication, BSL, or personal care

  • Manual handling or sports-based support experience

  • Care, residential, or community support roles

Requirements

Applicants will need (or be willing to obtain):

  • Enhanced DBS (Children only) – Update Service

  • Education Workforce Council (EWC) registration

  • Safeguarding training (Children & Young People)

  • Two years of references

  • UK driving licence (advantageous)
