Behaviour Support Worker
Job description
Behaviour Support Worker – Secondary School – Ebbw Vale, South Wales
Start Date: 05 February 2026
Location: Ebbw Vale, South Wales
Contract Type: Full-time (8:30am – 3:30pm)
Pay Rate: From £89.38/£110.00 per day
Teaching Personnel are recruiting a Behaviour Support Worker to join a forward-thinking secondary school in Ebbw Vale. The role will begin on a short-term/supply basis with the potential to develop into a longer-term position for the right person.
This is not a “stand at the back of the classroom” job. You will be part of the core support team, working with pupils who present with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges and additional learning needs, helping them access learning in a way that makes sense to them. The provision is calm, structured and supportive, with a staff team who believe that behaviour is communication and relationships change outcomes.
If you are the kind of person who stays steady when days are busy, who enjoys problem-solving with young people rather than for them, and who values small steps of progress, this role will suit you.
The role – what you will be doing
As a Behaviour Support Worker in this secondary setting, you will:
- Support pupils in lessons and around the school day to help them engage with learning
- Work in partnership with teachers to create positive, purposeful classroom environments
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with behavioural or emotional needs
- Implement behaviour plans and regulation strategies with consistency and sensitivity
- Help pupils develop routines, self-regulation skills and confidence in school life
- This role offers a positive challenge and great scope for progression, with additional pay available for class cover.
What we are looking for
To be considered for this role, you will need:
- Experience working with children or young people with behavioural, SEMH or additional needs
- A calm, patient and resilient approach
- Confidence managing challenging behaviour in a positive and proactive way
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
- A genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable secondary-age learners
- Right to work in the UK
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (support can be provided if required)
- Two professional references
- Experience within a specialist school, PRU or alternative provision is desirable but not essential
