Behaviour Support Mentor – Secondary School – Tameside
Location: Tameside
Start Date: September 2025
Contract: Full-time, Term Time Only (Mon–Fri, 8:15am–3:30pm)
Pay Rate: £95–£120 per day (based on experience and qualifications)
Role Summary:
A large secondary school in Tameside is seeking a passionate and resilient Behaviour Support Mentor to work closely with a targeted cohort of students who display challenging behaviour or are at risk of disengagement or exclusion. This role is ideal for those with a background in youth work, mentoring, or alternative provision.
Main Responsibilities:

Provide in-class and withdrawal support to students with SEMH or behavioural needs.

Lead small group and 1:1 behaviour intervention sessions focusing on anger management, emotional regulation, and self-reflection.

Supervise the school’s internal reflection or isolation room, maintaining a calm, supportive environment.

Support restorative conversations between pupils and staff following incidents.

Record incidents and interventions accurately using CPOMS or school safeguarding systems.

Collaborate with the pastoral team, SENCo, and external agencies to ensure a consistent approach to behaviour support.

Monitor pupil engagement, track intervention outcomes, and contribute to student review meetings.

Build positive, long-term relationships with students and act as a key worker for a small number of pupils.
Candidate Profile:

Experience working with young people in challenging settings (e.g. PRU, youth offending, mentoring).

Confident managing behaviour with de-escalation strategies.
-
Resilience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Team Teach training desirable but not essential.
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
