Behaviour Support Assistant
Job description
Primary Teaching Assistant (Behaviour Specialist) – Swansea
Step into a school where the energy hits you the moment you walk through the door. Classrooms are full, the pace is fast, and the personalities are larger than life. This is a role for someone who doesn’t just cope with challenging behaviour — they excel in it. Often, challenging behaviour is a form of communication for children who struggle to express how they are feeling and what they need. We are looking for someone who can support the classroom, steady the atmosphere, and help bring structure to even the busiest of school days.
If you’re confident, composed, and ready to support lively classes with big characters, this Swansea Primary School is ready for you.
Pay: £92.95 per day
Schedule: Monday–Friday, Term Time Only, Full Time from 8:30am to 3:30pm
Location: Swansea
What Your Days Will Look Like
You’ll be supporting in classrooms that are vibrant, busy, and full of movement. Your presence will matter — pupils will look to you for consistency, reassurance, and calm support. You’ll be the person helping to turn chaotic moments into constructive ones, understanding that behaviour is communication, not confrontation.
Your daily rhythm will include:
· Supporting the class teacher with large and small, high-energy groups
· Assisting with engaging activities that hold attention and minimise distractions
· Using behaviour strategies, de-escalation techniques, and restorative approaches (including supporting emotional or physical meltdowns)
· Working closely with teachers and support staff to maintain consistency across the school
· Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils who need additional guidance
· Encouraging and celebrating progress — especially the small, hard-won steps forward
What You’ll Bring
You’ll need presence — the kind that supports a room without needing to take control of it. A calm, friendly, and approachable personality that helps pupils feel safe, while reinforcing clear boundaries set by the teacher. Someone pupils trust, so they can become the best versions of themselves.
Essential Criteria:
· Experience working with children (school-based or similar setting)
· Enhanced Child Only DBS registered on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
· EWC registration (or willingness to register)
We’re Looking for Someone With:
· Experience in busy schools or behaviour-focused environments
· Confidence supporting pupils with challenging behaviour
· A calm, grounded personality that pupils respond positively to
· Resilience, patience, and a sense of humour
· The ability to reset quickly after challenging moments
· A belief that every child — even the most challenging — deserves patience and consistency
What You’ll Get in Return
This is a role where your support truly matters. You’ll be part of a team that values strong, reliable TAs who can stay calm under pressure and help bring out the best in pupils. We also support your development with training that schools actively look for.
Free CPD Courses:
· Safeguarding
· Behaviour Management
· ALN/SEN training
· Thrive
You will also have the opportunity to complete a Team Teach Level 2 Course at a highly discounted rate (subject to availability).
You’ll Receive:
· Weekly PAYE Pay (no umbrella charges)
· Competitive daily rate
· Support from a team of consultants who understand the realities of challenging behaviour
· Opportunities in multiple schools across Swansea and surrounding areas
· Pension Scheme & Wellbeing Support
