Teaching Personnel are working closely with a supportive and inclusive secondary school in the Exeter area, who are seeking a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to join their pastoral team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is confident, resilient, and passionate about supporting young people to succeed—particularly those who may need additional behavioural and emotional support within school.

The Role:

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will play a key role in promoting positive behaviour across the school. You will support students in the referral room and behaviour support areas, helping them to regulate emotions, reflect on their behaviour, and successfully reintegrate into lessons.

This is a varied role, working on a rota basis, meaning you will not be based in one setting all day. You will also work closely with teaching staff and the wider pastoral team to ensure consistency and support for all pupils.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting students in the behaviour/referral room
  • Promoting positive behaviour and engagement
  • Building strong, professional relationships with pupils
  • Helping students reflect and reset following behavioural incidents
  • Working collaboratively with staff to implement behaviour strategies

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Has experience working with young people (school-based or similar)
  • Is calm, patient, and able to manage challenging behaviour effectively
  • Can establish clear boundaries while remaining approachable and supportive
  • Has strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Is adaptable and thrives in a dynamic school environment

What Teaching Personnel Offer:

  • Competitive rates of pay
  • Ongoing professional development and training opportunities
  • Dedicated consultant support throughout your placement
  • Opportunity to gain valuable school-based experience
  • Potential for a long-term or permanent position

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
