Part-Time KS1 Behaviour Support Specialist

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Behaviour Support Specialist to work part-time across Key Stage 1 in a welcoming primary school in Darlington. This is a more targeted role, focused on supporting younger pupils who require consistent, specialist behavioural and emotional guidance to succeed in school.

About the Role:
You will work across KS1 classes, providing tailored support for identified pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural needs. Working closely with class teachers and the SENCO, you will help implement structured strategies, promote emotional regulation, and enable pupils to access learning in a positive and meaningful way.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver targeted 1:1 and small group interventions across KS1
• Support pupils with SEMH needs, attachment difficulties, or early behavioural challenges
• Implement and monitor personalised behaviour support plans
• Use consistent, nurturing approaches to support emotional regulation
• Assist in creating calm, structured classroom environments
• Liaise with staff and parents to ensure a consistent approach to behaviour support

We are looking for someone who:

• Has proven experience supporting behaviour in a primary or early years setting
• Has a strong understanding of child development, particularly in KS1
• Is confident using strategies such as nurture approaches, restorative practice, or trauma-informed care
• Can build positive, trusting relationships with young children
• Is patient, adaptable, and able to respond effectively to a range of behaviours
• Is able to work independently while contributing to a wider team
