Teaching Personnel are looking for a confident, resilient and compassionate behaviour mentor to join a secondary school in Bedford.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who understands that behaviour is often a form of communication and who can build strong, professional relationships with young people while maintaining clear boundaries and high expectations.

This role would be particularly well suited to graduates looking to build a career in education, psychology, counselling, youth work, social care or mental health.

The role

As a behaviour mentor, you will work closely with students who require additional behavioural, emotional and pastoral support, helping them overcome barriers to learning and develop the skills they need to succeed.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group mentoring and intervention
• Supporting students with behavioural, emotional and social needs
• Building positive, consistent and trusting relationships with students
• Helping students develop emotional regulation, resilience and self-confidence
• Supporting students to understand and manage their behaviour
• Implementing individual behaviour and support strategies
• Encouraging positive attitudes towards learning, attendance and school
• Helping students re-engage with their education and remain focused in lessons
• Supporting students who may struggle with challenging or disruptive behaviour
• Working alongside teachers, pastoral staff and the SEN team
• Monitoring student progress, behaviour and engagement
• Providing feedback to relevant staff regarding student development
• Helping maintain a calm, structured and inclusive school environment
• Acting as a positive role model and setting clear, consistent expectations
• Supporting the school's behaviour policies and safeguarding procedures

Experience and qualifications

Previous experience working with young people is highly desirable.

This could include experience in:

• Secondary schools
• Behaviour support
• SEN or SEMH settings
• Youth work
• Social care
• Mentoring
• Residential care
• Sports coaching
• Community work
• Pastoral support

A degree or relevant qualification is desirable, particularly in:

• Psychology
• Criminology
• Sociology
• Education
• Social Sciences
• Youth Work
• Counselling
• Mental Health
