The Role

As an Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), supporting them both in and out of the classroom. You will help pupils access learning, develop social communication skills, regulate emotions and build confidence throughout the school day.

You may work on a 1:1 basis or support small groups, delivering targeted interventions and implementing strategies to help pupils overcome barriers to learning.

Responsibilities

• Supporting pupils with Autism and additional learning needs
• Delivering tailored academic and social development support
• Implementing communication and emotional regulation strategies
• Supporting sensory and behavioural needs within the classroom
• Encouraging independence, engagement and confidence
• Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and external professionals
• Creating a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment
• Promoting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing

Ideal Candidate

• Experience supporting children with Autism in a school, care or similar setting
• Patient, nurturing and understanding approach
• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
• Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
• Resilient, adaptable and proactive
• Passionate about making a difference in children's lives
• Understanding of SEN strategies and inclusive education practices
