ASC Teaching Assistant – Horsham
Are you a caring and patient Teaching Assistant with experience supporting pupils with Autism (ASC)?
We are looking for a dedicated ASC Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive school in Horsham. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with pupils on the autism spectrum, helping them to access learning, build confidence, and develop key life skills.
This role is ideal for candidates with experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant (LSA), Autism Support Worker, or those with a strong interest in autism and inclusive education.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Autism (ASC)
- Support communication, interaction, and emotional regulation
- Implement structured routines and visual supports (e.g. PECS, visual timetables)
- Work closely with the SENCo and class teachers to deliver personalised support
- Assist in implementing EHCP targets and behaviour strategies
- Help create a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment
- Support pupils’ social and emotional development
Requirements
- Experience supporting children or young people with Autism (ASC) or additional needs
- A patient, calm, and consistent approach
- Understanding of autism strategies and behaviour support
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
Desirable
- Experience using PECS, Makaton, or other communication tools
- Knowledge of sensory needs and regulation strategies
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3, Teaching Assistant qualification)
- Experience in a school or specialist setting
