Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Art Teacher to join our educational institution in Uxbridge. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality art education to students, fostering creativity, and encouraging artistic development across a range of ages and abilities. This role requires a passionate individual who can inspire students through practical and theoretical teaching methods while maintaining a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and deliver engaging art lessons in line with the national curriculum and school policies.
• Develop students’ skills in various artistic techniques including drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital media.
• Assess and monitor students’ progress, providing constructive feedback and maintaining accurate records.
• Create a stimulating and supportive learning environment that encourages creativity and individual expression.
• Manage classroom behaviour effectively to ensure a positive and productive atmosphere.
• Organise and participate in exhibitions, art shows, and other school events to showcase students’ work.
• Maintain and manage art supplies and equipment responsibly and ensure health and safety standards are adhered to.
• Collaborate with colleagues to integrate art with other subjects and contribute to cross-curricular initiatives.
• Engage with parents and carers to communicate students’ progress and address any concerns.
• Keep up to date with developments in art education and teaching methodologies through continuous professional development.

Required Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
• A degree or equivalent qualification in Art, Fine Art, Art Education, or a closely related discipline.

Education

• Completed undergraduate degree in Art or a related subject.
• Postgraduate qualification in education or teaching is preferred but not essential.

Experience

• Proven experience teaching art in a school setting, preferably within secondary education.
• Experience in planning and delivering lessons to diverse groups of learners.
• Demonstrable experience of using a variety of art materials and techniques.

Knowledge and Skills

• Strong understanding of the national curriculum for art and current educational standards.
• Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to motivate and inspire students.
• Proficiency in both practical and theoretical aspects of art education.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Organisational skills to manage lesson planning, assessment and resources efficiently.
• Ability to incorporate digital art and technology into the curriculum.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience teaching in a multicultural or urban school environment.
• Additional qualifications or training in specialised art techniques or digital media.
• Familiarity with safeguarding procedures and promoting student welfare.

Working Conditions

• The role is full-time and permanent, based in a school setting in Uxbridge, Greater London.
• Work hours generally align with the school term times and standard school day hours, with occasional requirements for evening or weekend events.
• The environment involves working in classrooms, art studios, and occasionally off-site during visits or exhibitions.
• Physical activity includes setting up art materials and equipment and managing practical demonstrations.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
