Job Title: Teaching Assistant (ALN/SEN Specialist)

Location: Newport NP19      
Contract Type: Full Time
Pay: Weekly Pay

Teaching Personnel are recruiting an experienced and confident ALN/SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils within specialist and mainstream settings across Newport.

This role is ideal for someone who has a strong background working with a wide range of additional learning needs, including Autism, ADHD and behavioural needs, and who can provide consistent, high-quality support on a 1:1 basis.

This is a rewarding opportunity for a Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting pupils with additional needs and can bring structure, resilience and positivity into the classroom.


About the Role

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with ALN/SEN
  • Support children with a range of needs including Autism, ADHD and behavioural challenges
  • Implement effective behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual pupil needs
  • Support pupils’ emotional regulation and engagement in lessons
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and support staff
  • Maintain a calm and structured environment
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils

The Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience working within an ALN/SEN setting is essential
  • Strong experience providing 1:1 support
  • Confident managing challenging behaviour
  • Understanding of a range of needs including Autism, ADHD and additional learning needs
  • Patient, resilient and consistent in approach
  • Able to build strong relationships with pupils and staff
  • Proactive and able to use initiative
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

Experience may come from schools, care, youth work, residential or similar settings.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
