Additional Support in Hearing Resource Base
Job description
We are seeking a caring, skilled and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our Hearing Resource Base in a welcoming and inclusive school in Penarth. This is an exciting opportunity to support pupils with hearing impairment and communication needs to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
About the role
You will work closely with the class teacher, specialist staff and external professionals to support deaf and hearing-impaired pupils in both the resource base and mainstream classroom. You will help pupils access learning, develop communication skills and build confidence throughout the school day.
Key responsibilities
Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with hearing impairment
Support pupils’ communication, language and social interaction
Use British Sign Language (BSL) and/or Makaton to support understanding and expression
Adapt learning materials and activities to meet pupils’ individual needs
Support inclusion within mainstream classes and wider school life
Work closely with teachers, the Teacher of the Deaf and other professionals
Promote independence, wellbeing and positive behaviour
The successful candidate will have
Experience using British Sign Language (BSL) and/or Makaton
Experience working with children, ideally those with hearing or communication needs
A patient, caring and flexible approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
A commitment to inclusive education

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
