Functional Skills Maths & English Tutor

Horsham & Surrounding Areas
£25 per hour | Flexible Hours

About the Opportunity

TP Tutors is seeking experienced and dedicated Maths and English tutors to support young people across Crawley, Horsham, and surrounding areas.

We are specifically looking for tutors who can provide Functional Skills support, helping learners develop their skills, build confidence, and work towards achieving their qualifications.

Many of the learners we support require a personalised approach due to additional learning needs, SEND, or barriers to accessing education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver tailored Maths and/or English tuition aligned with Functional Skills curricula.
  • Plan engaging lessons based on individual learning needs and academic targets.
  • Adapt teaching approaches and resources to maximise learner engagement and progress.
  • Monitor attainment and provide detailed session feedback.
  • Maintain professional communication with families, schools, local authorities, and TP Tutors where required.

The Learners

You may support pupils who:

  • Are working towards Functional Skills qualifications.
  • Have SEND, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, dyslexia, anxiety, or communication needs.
  • Are attending alternative provision or awaiting a suitable school placement.
  • Require a flexible, nurturing, and individualised approach to learning.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience teaching or tutoring Maths and/or English.
  • Ability to provide Functional Skills tuition.
  • Experience supporting learners with a range of educational needs.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Right to work in the UK.

Desirable Experience

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), PGCE, or equivalent.
  • Previous one-to-one tutoring experience.
  • Knowledge of SEND and inclusive teaching strategies.
  • Experience supporting pupils facing barriers to education.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
