Primary 1:1 Teaching Assistant
Location: Sheffield & Barnsley
Contract: Full-time / Term-time only/ Flexible
Start Date: ASAP or January 2026
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join our friendly primary schools across Sheffield and Barnsley. This is a rewarding opportunity to provide personalised support to pupils with additional learning or behavioural needs, ensuring they can access the curriculum and thrive in a supportive learning environment.
You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and wider staff team to deliver tailored learning plans, build confidence, and encourage independence in the pupil you support.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 support for a child with Special Educational Needs and/or an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP).
- Assist with classroom learning, differentiation, and behaviour management.
- Support the pupil’s social, emotional, and academic development.
- Collaborate with teaching staff and parents to ensure consistent support.
- Encourage positive learning attitudes and promote inclusion within the classroom.
Requirements
- Previous experience supporting children in a primary school (EYFS, KS1 or KS2).
- Experience working 1:1 with pupils with SEN (e.g. autism, ADHD, speech & language needs, or SEMH).
- Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent experience).
- A patient, nurturing, and enthusiastic approach to supporting children.
- Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
