Contract: Full-Time, Term-Time Only (Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm)

Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a supportive and inclusive primary school in Wythenshawe to recruit a dedicated 1:1 Autism Support Teaching Assistant for a full-time position starting in November 2026.

You will play a key role in helping a pupil access learning, develop social and communication skills, and achieve their full potential within a positive and nurturing school environment.

The Role

As a 1:1 Autism Support Teaching Assistant, you will provide dedicated support to a pupil with autism, helping them engage with learning, build confidence, and develop positive relationships throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
• Adapt learning activities to meet the pupil's individual needs and learning style.
• Support the development of communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation skills.
• Implement strategies recommended by the SENCo and external professionals.
• Encourage independence, confidence, and active participation in classroom activities.
• Support the pupil with transitions, daily routines, and sensory needs.
• Build a positive, trusting, and supportive relationship with the pupil.
• Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff and parents where appropriate.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to achieve the best possible outcomes for the child.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will:

• Have previous experience supporting children with autism or additional learning needs.
• Demonstrate patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach.
• Understand effective strategies for supporting children with ASC, including sensory and communication needs.
• Be confident in managing challenging behaviours calmly and positively.
• Possess strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Be adaptable and responsive to the individual needs of the pupil.
• Hold GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
• Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
