Transition Support Assistant (Year 6–7) – Secondary School – Stockport
Start Date: September 2025
Location: Stockport
Salary: £89–£95 per day (depending on experience)
Working Hours: 8:15am–3:30pm, Monday to Friday
Contract Type: Full-time, term-time only (September–July, with possible extension)
Are you passionate about supporting young people during key milestones in their education journey?
One of our inclusive and community-focused secondary schools in Stockport is seeking a caring, organised, and proactive Transition Support Assistant to support pupils transitioning from Year 6 into Year 7.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in helping new Year 7 pupils settle into secondary school life. You’ll work closely with students, staff, and parents/carers to ensure that early experiences at the school are positive, inclusive, and confidence-building—especially for those identified as vulnerable, anxious, or at risk of disengagement.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Provide structured support to Year 7 pupils as they adapt to their new environment, routines, and expectations.
-
Work closely with feeder primary schools to gather relevant information ahead of the new school year.
-
Deliver small-group and 1:1 sessions focusing on emotional wellbeing, organisation, friendships, and managing change.
-
Assist pupils in navigating the school day—moving between lessons, using planners, and engaging with new subjects.
-
Monitor progress and emotional development, reporting any concerns to pastoral or SEND staff.
-
Organise and lead transition-based activities in collaboration with the Year 7 Head of Year.
-
Help foster a safe, nurturing, and encouraging atmosphere across the school site.
Person Specification:
-
Previous experience working with children aged 10–13 in a school, youth, or mentoring capacity.
-
A calm, friendly, and reliable presence—able to build strong, positive relationships with pupils.
-
A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection (training provided).
-
Proactive and confident working both independently and as part of a team.
-
Ideal for psychology graduates, aspiring teachers, or youth support workers.
This is a hugely rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to students as they begin their secondary education. Full training and ongoing pastoral support provided.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
